Champagne Leclerc Briant

Champagne, France

A pioneering Champagne house where biodynamics, precision and a deep respect for terroir come together in wines of clarity and quiet intensity.

Leclerc Briant is one of the rare houses in Champagne where philosophy and practice have long moved in the same direction. Founded in Cumières in the early twentieth century, the domaine built its reputation not through scale, but through a strong, independent vision of what Champagne could be. A vision that placed the vineyard at the centre, long before it became part of a wider movement.

Already in the 1960s, under Bertrand Leclerc, the estate began working its vineyards without herbicides or chemical treatments. This early commitment would later evolve into full biodynamic farming, making Leclerc Briant one of the pioneers of this approach in Champagne. Today, that philosophy remains the foundation of the house, with each parcel farmed with close attention to soil life, balance and natural expression.

The vineyards are spread across some of Champagne’s most respected areas, including Cumières, Hautvillers and Mailly, covering a range of terroirs that bring both depth and tension to the wines. Each site is approached individually, allowing its character to emerge with precision and without unnecessary intervention

In the cellar, the same mindset continues. Fermentations are carried out with a light touch, often using indigenous yeasts, and ageing takes place across a combination of stainless steel, oak and neutral vessels. Dosage is kept deliberately low, not as a statement, but as a natural consequence of balance in the base wines. The result is a style that feels pure, energetic and composed, where texture and freshness exist in harmony.

Following a period of transition, the house entered a new chapter in 2012 under the direction of Frédéric Zeimett. With renewed focus and quiet ambition, Leclerc Briant has continued to refine its identity, staying true to its roots while bringing even greater precision and consistency to the wines.

At its core, Leclerc Briant is about transparency. Champagne that speaks clearly of its origin, shaped by thoughtful farming and careful élevage. Wines that do not seek to impress through weight or power, but through balance, detail and a sense of place that unfolds gradually in the glass.
