Silvia González García

Ribera del Duero, Spain

Working with old vines at high altitude, Silvia González García focuses on purity and balance, crafting wines that reflect their origin with precision and restraint.

Silvia González García is part of a new wave of Spanish winemakers redefining Ribera del Duero with a more refined and expressive approach. Working at a high altitude of 880 meters in Ribera del Duero, she focuses on purity, balance and a sense of place, rather than power alone. In a region often associated with structure and intensity, her wines stand out for their elegance and clarity.

Her vineyards are located on elevated plateaus, where the climate is harsher and the growing season longer. Here, old vines struggle in poor soils of limestone and clay, producing small berries with natural concentration and freshness. The altitude plays a defining role, preserving acidity and bringing a lifted, almost weightless quality to the wines. It is in these conditions that Silvia has found her voice.

Work in the vineyard is precise and demanding. Everything is done with the intention of capturing the character of each parcel at the right moment. Harvesting is carried out by hand, often in multiple passes, ensuring that only perfectly ripe fruit is selected. This attention continues in the cellar, where the wines are handled gently and with restraint.

El Canto and El Sueño represent two distinct expressions of Silvia’s vision. El Canto is the more immediate and vibrant of the two, focused on purity of fruit and energy. It shows bright red fruit, fine tannins and a lively structure that makes it both accessible and precise. There is a directness to the wine, a sense of clarity that reflects careful vineyard work and a light touch in the cellar.

El Sueño, meaning The Dream, is her most ambitious cuvée. Sourced from the highest and most demanding parcels, it reveals a deeper and more layered side of Tempranillo. The wine is more structured, with darker fruit, greater concentration and a long, persistent finish. Yet it never loses its balance. There is a softness to the tannins and a quiet intensity that builds with time in the glass.

What defines Silvia’s wines is their sense of control and intention. Nothing feels excessive or forced. Instead, they offer a more nuanced interpretation of Ribera del Duero, where altitude, precision and patience come together. El Canto and El Sueño are not just different wines, but two perspectives on the same landscape, each capturing a different moment, a different emotion.

Together, they reflect a winemaker who is shaping her own path, bringing a new kind of finesse to a historic region.
